Research topics

What would be interesting research topics in Buddhism?
Here is a couple of my suggestions, for example:

1. Is "self" real?
2. Do we have a free will?
3. Is compassionate conservation possible?

Please suggest topics you think would be interesting to research. I will try to cover as many topics in my upcoming blog posts as possible.
